From time to time I really want to talk about my journey with this diet and how it's not only working, but effecting my life as a whole. I have really noticed many things about this way of eating and I'm quite pleased to say the least! First of all I would recommend this diet to anyone. Yes anyone. Even if you don't have alot of weight to lose or any to lose for that matter! Even if you can't get passed the initial attack phase, it does so much good for your body that I wish I could make everyone give it a shot! For me personally it's been a bit of a "detox" if you will. I am a couple weeks into it and while it did take getting used to, I now love it! I feel fabulous, my skin and hair looks great, my belly bloat has gone down so much that all of my pants are lose in the waist and they are elastic waists!! But most importantly, I have NO cravings anymore! NONE!! I do not crave sugary treats, I do not crave bread or carbs, ice cream, cake, cookies, pizza, bread, NOTHING!! Do you know how liberating that is?? It's flat out amazing to me! I'm never starving, in fact most often I have to remind myself to eat and force myself to stop and eat. This is a HUGE deal to me because before my life revolved around food. I love food. I love to cook and bake. It makes me happy and it relaxes me. Unfortunately I've also always loved to eat! The other day I made home made chocolate chip cookies for the family and I didn't eat a single cookie. Not a crumb, no licking the spoon, no licking the fingers. Nothing! Did they smell good? Hell yeah they did, but I did not give in. They are still sitting on my counter in a ziplock bag and they don't bother me. Now that may not be such a big deal for you, but for me, that's HUGE!! I've actually managed to get to the point where I can cook and bake for the family or for fun and I don't feel the need to eat it! In a matter of a couple of weeks??!! Yeah for me that's a pretty big deal. Now when I crave something, usually it's a veggie! LOL! Now I realize that since I have a thyroid condition, my weight loss will be slower than the average person, but that's ok with me because I know eventually I will get there. It helps that along the way, day by day, I feel so much better. Not just on the outside, but on the inside too. I have friends that are also following this diet plan, which makes it so much more fun! We have a little support group and support one another and it really helps alot. At least this is true for me. Along the way I've noticed that most of us are experiencing the same stages along the way at about the same times. All of us pretty much started on different days and have different amounts of weight to lose. I had over 60 pounds to lose and a few people only have the last few to lose. Yeah I say "only" but I realize that those are always the hardest to lose and hardest to keep off!! The stages seem to go about like this:
Day 1- You're starving! You want to eat quite a bit and you drink like crazy!
Day 2- You're still starving and wanting to eat everything that's not nailed down or frozen! On top of this your really tired. Like your arms and legs feel like they're weighted down with bricks and you don't feel like doing much of anything. The only exercise you will feel like doing today is your gazillion trips to the bathroom!
Day 3- Today you really don't even want to look at another piece of protein even if it's a freakin' lobster! This in turn makes you really not want to eat and you have to force yourself to eat. BUT you will want to drink all day. Like you can't quite get enough to drink.
Day 4- The tiredness starts to go away and you start to really feel energized and amazing! You're used to what you have to eat at this point and it's no big deal. You just eat what you're supposed to to fuel your body and you go about your day.
After this will all depend on how many days you have the attack phase. I had it for 7 days. I couldn't wait to be able to eat veggies again! Funny enough, the day I could add them in, I really didn't eat that much! I figured I'd eat every veggie in sight but it just wasn't the case. I've had 2, what I would consider "cheats" since I've been on the program, the first was one day wasn't a veggie day but I had about a half a cup of cream of broccoli soup. It's my diet soup, so it wasn't a calorie killer, but still, it wasn't a veggie day. The other was last night when I had meatloaf. I made the family meatloaf and usually it's not a huge favorite or anything, but it got really late and for some reason it just sounded so good! It WAS really good!! The only thing in it that's off limits is the little bit of bread crumbs so I'm not going to beat myself up over it, but now I know that I need to make a legal version of meat loaf to keep on hand!!
Another thing I seem to be battling myself with is exercise. It's always the hardest thing for me to get into the routine of doing. I really need to do it though. I know it will help me feel even better and make my weight loss faster! So I will continue to work on making that a part of my day! I think I will start right now in fact and then hop into the shower!
So if you need to lose some weight, or just feel sluggish and have that belly fat that you can't seem to get rid of and have no energy to get through the day, I HIGHLY recommend giving this diet a shot! You can get your true weight and diet profile on www.dukandiet.com and go from there. Even if you only do the attack phase, you will feel so much better!! Yes I will be one of those annoying people who recommends this program to anyone and everyone! Everyone loses at their own pace so not everyone will lose a bunch of weight right out the gate, but some will! Give it a shot! What have you got to lose? It's cheap and it's easy!!
